Six-Year-Old Battling Brain Tumor will have Donations Matched by CBD Company

There are some things that no amount of money can buy—like the well-being of a young child. On Jan. 26, six-year-old EJ Francis began his first round of chemotherapy. Florida-based Green Roads, a cannabidiol (CBD) supplier, pledged on Feb. 1 to match donations for Francis’ medical costs up to $10,000.

In order to cover the astronomical medical costs, a GoFundMe page has been set up for the young boy, who was first diagnosed with the tumor on Dec. 13, 2015.

“We’re proud to support EJ and his family, as he continues his battle against this devastating condition,” Arby Barroso, co-founder of Green Roads said in a press release. “Even with health insurance medical expenses can be overwhelming. We’re asking the community to join #TeamEJ and help provide the resources needed to cover his treatment.”

Green Roads also provided EJ with CBD oil, free of charge. The CBD oil has helped reduce EJ’s seizures, but it’s not enough. EJ’s insurance doesn’t cover immunity and pain management therapy—only the chemotherapy.

“EJ is the toughest fighter I know,” EJ’s mother Jen wrote. “He wants to be a ninja warrior when he grows up! Since his diagnosis, EJ has consistently endured many painful seizures every day. Over the last two years, we have been able to work successfully with doctors. Finally, EJ was getting better!  EJ was walking, playing and finally enjoying a quality of life that he hadn’t since his diagnosis. Now, however, the tumor is bigger than before, and he is beginning to have many challenges again. His ability to walk is deteriorating because the need to shrink the tumor is dire.”

As of early February, EJ’s family had raised nearly $15,000, just $3,000 shy of their $20,000 goal. Some of the individual donations were for $420. It’s time for the cannabis industry to step up and ensure that EJ’s family is able to pay their expenses. Donate here.
